Selena let out a slow sigh. Glancing out her window, the city buzzed on the street below, but she had no energy. She was tired. And if she stopped to admit it, she was lonely. She was existing, not living.

It had been two years since her husband died after a sudden, short illness. In response, Selena passed the time by throwing herself into her work as a financial analyst. Being a workaholic for 60 hours a week had certainly worked to her advantage. Her hard work earned her a promotion to Vice President at the firm, which will mean even more work. The coping strategy she had adopted was spinning out of control.

At lunch with her friend Maria the next day, she shared her feelings. She just wanted to have some fun for a change. It had been so long, that she really felt like she had forgotten how. What Maria told her next shocked her. She had used the services of a male companion agency named Cowboys 4 Angels when she needed a date for an important event. She suggested Selena consider taking a weekend getaway and get a male companion to go with her. Selena rejected the idea outright.

“Are you crazy? I can’t do something like that!”

“You most certainly can, and you should! You deserve it.”

At home that night, Selena couldn’t stop thinking about what Maria had said. Her curiosity was getting the best of her. So she Googled Cowboys 4 Angels. Wow! She was shocked at the gorgeous men that stared back at her from the screen. Damn, no wonder Maria used them! She scrolled through bios of the men employed by the agency. They were not only gorgeous but also well accomplished. Maybe Maria was right. Maybe she did deserve to live a little.

She called Garren James, the CEO of the agency, and spoke with him. Talking with him put her totally at ease about using his agency, and by the end of the call Selena had booked a reservation. Her companion would come down from New York to pick her up for a weekend getaway.

The week leading into the weekend flew by. Selena wasn’t sure where the time went. She was both excited and nervous going into the weekend. Several times she was tempted to cancel, but there was a side of her that knew she needed this.

Her heart raced when she heard the doorbell ring. As she opened the door, she almost couldn’t speak. Mark was breathtaking! His brown eyes sparkled as he smiled and handed her a rose.

“Your chariot awaits my queen to whisk you away for the weekend.”

“Your queen is ready,” Selena replied. And she grabbed her bag and headed to the car. Working in Washington, DC was exhausting, so they were heading West to a little cabin on the Appalachian Trail.

The drive was relaxing and the conversation flowed easily. They chatted as if they had known each other for years, and before they knew it, they were pulling up to the cabin. They dropped their bags inside, freshened up, and headed out to take a drive along Skyline Drive.

The sun was shining on the multicolored leaves as they drove and stopped at the overlook areas. The scenery was breathtaking. Mark put his arms around Selena as they looked out at the beauty before them. They breathed in the crisp air as he nuzzled her ear and neck. Selena felt the tingles go all the way down her spine to her toes. She also felt relaxed.

As the sun started to wane, they headed back into town and went to a local pub for dinner. They chatted and laughed over wine. The food was delicious, and Selena hadn’t laughed so much in a long time. Back at the cabin, they sat out on the back porch by the  outdoor fireplace drinking more wine. They looked up at the stars, and the heat from the fireplace couldn’t compare to the heat between Mark and Selena. Sparks flew in the air like static. Mark brushed a hair from her eye and his hand lingered on her cheek. She felt his breath on her ear and flushed. She felt like she couldn’t breathe. As he leaned in to her, everything else around them faded to black.

When Selena woke in the morning, she stretched in the bed, feeling refreshed and energized. Mark had already gotten breakfast for them and set it up on the table.

“Get up sleepy head, unless you want breakfast in bed!

Selena jumped up. She was starving. After breakfast, they headed out on an adventure to explore some local caverns. Selena felt almost like a kid — carefree and happy. They played explorers romping through the caverns. Mark kept a protective hand on Selena’s hand and back to be sure she didn’t lose her footing. She felt safe and cared for, something she hadn’t felt since her husband passed.

Once back at the cabin, they relaxed in the hot tub, sipping wine and talking. Mark whispered in Selena’s ear, causing her to blush. The heat and the water bubbled up, steam surrounding them in a veil of privacy.

As they drove back to Washington, DC the following day, Selena felt alive and happy. It felt really good to feel alive again. And it was all thanks to a Cowboy who came to the city.
