Can’t get enough of our Gigolos? Need something to help tie you over until we see if Season 7 is announced? Well Nick Hawk, star of all six seasons of our Showtime series “Gigolos,” is adding another title to his repertoire – columnist.

He already had author under his belt, but now, Nick will be a columnist for Penthouse Magazine. His new column Model City will debut with Penthouse Magazine’s October issue.

“I’m very proud of writing for the legendary men’s magazine Penthouse,” Hawk said. “It’s been my favorite magazine ever since I was a teenager. Writing a column for a legit publication has also been on my bucket list. I enjoy sharing an unedited look into my life outside… ‘Gigolos.’”

Penthouse said the column will give “the reader a fly-on-the-wall perspective of a day in the life of a gigolo.”

A Gigolo since 2009 when Garren recruited him, Nick is pretty much an open book anyway, but we are sure he’s bound to have a few hidden secrets to reveal in his column.

Are there no limits to his talent – companion, gigolo, entrepreneur, author, singer, artist? This Madison, Wisconsin native started as an Explicit Stripper and then became a Cowboy. In 2013, he released his own sex toy and novelty line. He is the only Cowboy to have his penis replicated as a dildo and insured. For six seasons on Showtime’s reality series ‘Gigolos,’ Garren James has let viewers into the world of male companions that specialize in offering companionship to women. In a world of online harassment and unsolicited dick pics, Garren has managed to create something that breaks the mold. He created an agency rooted in class, grace and chivalry and built a steady clientele of women who pay for male companionship and attention.

Garren has been doing some publicity recently about Cowboys 4 Angels, and we bet there are some tidbits in the interviews that you weren’t aware of. So I guess I just wanted to know how did you come into and get the idea to provide the services that you do?
I was actually dating a woman who ran an agency, woman for men, when I first met her. I knew nothing about the industry and so started learning from her and sort of helping her with different things. She looked at me one day, and said, “Why don’t you start an agency for women?” I went online and I couldn’t find anything, and I said, ” I don’t think so because there isn’t anything.” And she said, “Well, there you go.” And I said, “Okay.”

Garren went on to say that in his research he saw some men listed that saw women, but they also wrote that they would see men.  He didn’t get a good feeling that women would want to see men who were also seeing men. So he decided to do completely 100% straight men for women only. Lucky us, ladies!

When did you see things start to take off?
I put the website up and found a few guys and there was no response at all.  I remember just thinking “What is going on here?” But then I got a call from the Tyra Banks show.  The show Hung came out after I started the agency and was popular at the time. Suddenly people wanted to talk to a male companion, so I went on the show. The day that episode aired, Cowboys4Angels was in the top ten Google searched sites in the nation. There was an incredible buzz, and since then, it’s just been crazy with all the media attention. We’ve been on Dr. Phil, 20/20 and Nightlight News. Then we started the Gigolos show. We’ve done six seasons on Showtime so far, and it’s a very popular show. So basically since the Tyra show, we really haven’t looked back.

That’s kind of cool, I guess.  It seems like the idea came from the demand, but once the idea got more popularized especially by such women-friendly mainstream media outlets, the ladies came out of the woodwork.
Yeah, that’s it. I think that women have always liked the idea of hiring somebody for the evening. I just think that they were turned off by the fact that most of the men were seeing men also. Cowboys 4 Angels seemed to be the first company in the United States that said, “Hey listen, we’re only for women,” and we were serious.  We got ridiculed at first.  Some people want to think there’s no such thing as a straight male companion.

People always say “These guys must be secretly seeing men on the side because women aren’t allowed to hire a guy.”  But women are allowed to do this.  It was mostly male reporters that were sort of giving that vibe, and it was just uncalled for.  Men shouldn’t be the only ones with the power or the money to hire a companion. There are plenty of powerful women out there, too.

What type of women do you see? Who would be your average customer?
That’s a good question. I wish I could say that there is an average, but there really isn’t. We have so many different spectrums of clientele. We have the very beautiful, fun, client that is a very successful woman  traveling to a city and she doesn’t know anyone. She’s there on business and wants to go out and have a good time. We have the clients that need men for business functions or weddings, We have the clients that have gone through a bad break up who just want to have some fun, or gone through a bad divorce or have lost a spouse. These women have been with the same person for twenty plus years, and they are scared to go out and date again, so they want to use us to get their feet wet. We have special needs clients that have gone through some sort of traumatic experience in their lives and just are afraid of men.

I’ve had women call and say, “My therapist suggested that I hired a man for the night to help get me going again,” So there’s a big spectrum of women who either need the service or are just doing it for fun that call us for a person who is well reviewed, charming, and background checked. They feel safe and comfortable for a no-strings-attached, this-guy’s-not-gonna-call-me-tomorrow-type experience.

I’m kind of glad that a lot of your clientele are using the money to overcome stigma.
A lot of women are just tired of going on bad date after bad date. They call and say “Listen. I’ve gone out on bad date after bad date, after bad date, after bad date, and I’m looking for a guy to be like the old perfect gentleman again” or say “I’d rather pay somebody to treat me like a queen instead of wasting time going on bad Tinder date after bad Tinder date after bad Match.com date.”

What was the most interesting request that you’ve had?
God, I’ve had so many different kinds of interesting requests. You know, one that really stands out for me one was a woman who was overweight and not happy. She went on a long-term diet. She hired a nutritionist, and her goal was to lose 100 lbs.  She said, “Garren, you know, I’m gonna set up weight loss goals and if I meet my goal for the month, I’m gonna treat myself to an overnight appointment,” and I said, “Okay.” Each month I would check with her for her weight loss goal, and then before the appointment, she would send me a picture of the scale. It took over a year, but she lost the 100 lbs, and it felt great to be a part of that with her. I also got a call from a woman who was terminally ill with cancer and always wanted to go to India. It was on her bucket list. She was a little frail and couldn’t travel alone, but she didn’t want to hire nurses to go with her, so she hired one of the men to go with her on a week-long trip to explore India. She did pass away, but the letter I got from her after her trip was pretty incredible just thanking us. Those are just two of a whole host of really special clients.

How do you handle calls if their request is very eclectic? How do they choose who they will go with? Do you have a hand in matching ladies with cowboys?
I try to get them to pick out two or three men they like on the website, and then I’ll sort of feel out their personality. If they have  a type A personality, they might not like Joey who is a laid back southern California-type attitude. So I try to listen to the clients and feel out their personalities to see who they’ll like more. If they are educated, I find someone that’s gonna match their education level. If she’s going through a rough time, then I want a guy that’s funny who can make her laugh.

So I try to do my best to guide people. Sometimes a woman will call and say, “I like the way this guy looks. I want to hire him.” So we just roll the dice and hope it’s a good match. Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn’t.

It sounds like you have to gauge what women actually fantasize about versus what society tells people women fantasize about. What do you think is more in line with reality?
Something I learned right away is that when women are hiring men, they’re doing it because they want attention. Maybe before they’ve gone on dates and had to give a lot of attention to the guy, and they’re like, “Hey listen, I want to sit back and be pampered.” It’s just like going to get your nails done, going to the spa, or getting your hair done. You just want to sit back and be served. So that’s a big part with training the guys now.  I tell them to do everything that your mother taught you to do – open every door, hold her hand when you’re walking somewhere, push in her chair, and throughout the night compliment as much as you can. You can’t give enough compliments, but we don’t lie to a woman. What we do and what many women are looking for, is to feel special, to feel loved,  to feel warmth, and to feel beautiful. At the end of the day, the most important thing is making her feel special, because if you don’t do the little things, she’s not gonna feel like she spent the money well.

What other types of training do the men get? If any?
We have an employment page on our website, but the vast majority of men who apply are not hired. If I like their photos, I schedule a phone call to get a sense of their personality. Do they make me feel comfortable right away? Are they personable? There are a lot of good looking, smart people that are very introverted, so that wouldn’t work. And then there are guys that all they can do is talk about how amazing they are and every single woman wants them, and that’s a warning signal that the guy’s ego is just way too big for this job. This job is about others, not about us. After eight years of doing this, I can sort out anyone who’s not going to be good at this job on a five to 10-minute first call.

Once they’ve passed that first phone conversation, I do a Skype interview unless I can meet them in person. It that one, I get a sense of their manners, how they present themselves, and how they speak. Then they’ll get a list of the agency rules – the do’s and don’ts. Then I do a follow-up conversation with them going over the rules again. We have women that have been with the agency for many years that are sort of like testers. So they will get a slightly discounted rate to book an appointment with someone new, and they give feedback on each individual guy. We do a review after a date with each client, and we give the gentleman any pointers that a client mentions, and that’s pretty much it. It’s like a learning process just like any job. Some people can do this job and some people just can’t.

Do you call yourselves gigolos?
Well, you know, Showtime approached the agency with the name of the show as Gigolos and I was like, “Are you serious?” When you hear the word gigolo, it’s like, “Oh, here’s a man who’s preying on women to pay his rent.”  I didn’t like the name of the show at first, but it’s sort of grown on me and I feel like we’re changing the perception of that name. These guys are providing a service and they’re being paid for their time.” They’re not con-men. It’s very honest and up front on what we’re providing for a client and the men do not exchange any contact information with the client. We don’t do that. We’re a very professional classy service.

One guy wrote saying this is all fake. These guys aren’t being hired and women don’t do this type of thing, almost insinuating that they weren’t allowed to do it. It seemed very sexist to me, like it was putting it down. There was  a lot of media that came to talk to us just to find out “What kind of woman would do this?”

That infuriated me, and I was like, “Are you serious? What do you mean? Why can’t it be your neighbor who would want to do this? Or why can’t it be your boss or your fellow employee? Why are they not allowed to do this?”

It’s funny, too, that a lot of women when they call, they say, “I’m really nervous calling you. Uh, this is the first time I’ve ever done anything like this. I just want you to know.” Like trying to say like, “Hey, I don’t do this all the time. I’m not a bad person.” And I’m like, “Listen, it’s okay that you’ve never done this before. Don’t worry about a thing. We’ve been doing it for eight years. You’re in good hands, and I’m gonna promise you the best experience we could possibly give you.” We have a high standard and a high goal to introduce someone to something they’ve never done before and make it amazing for them. I take the business of people having fun very seriously.

Cindy and Samantha are planning a “Girls’ Getaway Weekend” to celebrate their friend, Ava, who was recently named the CEO of a large national corporation. They looked through more bios and commented on the men from the Cowboys 4 Angels website. They couldn’t believe the collection of gorgeous, fit, educated, successful men in one location.

“Ooooh. Look at Tommy. He’s very tall and totally buff!” Samantha exclaimed.

“What’s he into?” asked Cindy.

“Um, let’s see. He is a small town romantic from Louisiana and loves the outdoors.”

“Hmmm, okay. Continue.”

“He loves to make other people feel special and has a sense of humor.”

“You know I love funny guys,” said Cindy.

“I know. He sounds perfect. Listen to this…. He loves the company of a woman at his side.”

“How about in his lap? Just kidding!” Cindy said.

“No you’re not!”

“True! Who do we have left to look at?”

“We just have a few South Florida Cowboys left,” said Samantha.

The women combed through all the biographies and photographs, drooling over each of the heart-melting gentlemen.

“Gavin looks totally like a bad boy,” squealed Cindy

“He does, but he’s an Army Veteran who went to war and now tracks down online predators. And he has a heart for animal charities!” said Samantha.

“Shane doesn’t have a bio, but he looks totally yummy! He looks like he could be a Veteran too by the haircut,” Samantha said.

“Yea, I love the tattoos,” replied Cindy. “But Lucas is the one who makes my blood boil!”

“You like the Canadian firefighter turned model, eh?” Samantha chided.

“Oh yes! It says he is calm, friendly, adventurous and funny,” sighed Cindy.

“So how should we do this? I mean, how do we decide which two?” asked Cindy.

“I’ll take them all, please!”

“Seriously, Samantha, what do you think?”

“I know how. Hang on. I’ll be right back.” Samantha ran into her bedroom. She came back into the living room, wearing a hat.

“We’re drawing names out of your cowboy hat, aren’t we?” Cindy asked.

“Yep!”

“Genius. Feels sort of fitting that way.”

They jotted down each of the Cowboys’ names and placed the papers into the hat.

“You draw, first,” Cindy said.

Samantha drew. “Ricardo!”

“My turn. I’m nervous.” Cindy drew. “Oh my gosh, Lucas, my favorite!”

“So Ricardo and Lucas!” they both hollered.

“Sounds like a win – win to me!” said Cindy.

“Definitely! In this game, every choice was a win!”

“True. So true.”

Cindy and Samantha both spoke to Garren James, the Cowboys 4 Angels owner, who was an absolute sweetheart. He adored their plan and completely hooked them up with the desired men. The women then made a special request to Garren. They asked him to scheme a small surprise for them into the plan so they could experience some of the unknown element with the group. Garren loved the idea and started to immediately plan!

Cindy answered the door to the South Beach hotel suite, where the group was staying. She and the other women wore formal dresses for their elegant evening plan. A dashing man in a tuxedo greeted Cindy and asked for Ava, who was surprised. He said, “Hi Ava. I’m Ricardo from Cowboys 4 Angels. Your friends, here, sent me to you, as a way to say congratulations, Angel.” Ava’s jaw dropped and a huge smile formed on her face when she caught Cindy’s knowing glance. Ricardo played Ava’s favorite classical jazz song and said, “Ava, may I have this dance?” Ricardo and Ava gracefully danced in the middle of the circle of women, who watched with wonder and envy.

Another knock on the door pierced music sounds. Samantha answered the door. This time, Cowboy Lucas, stood in the doorway, wearing a tuxedo and looking spectacular.

“I’m here to congratulate Angel Ava on being CEO with a dance to her favorite jazz melody.”

“Well, you’ll have to get in line, because Ricardo is gracefully doing that right now!” Samantha said.

Lucas stepped into the room and said, “I think we may have a misunderstanding here. See, Ava is my dance partner for the evening.” Ricardo replied, “But, Ava is my dance part….” They both shouted, in unison, “Shall we?”

Sonia was facing the Big 50 with mixed feelings. She was at a point in her life where she felt she had really come into her own. After a bit, Sonia felt tired. Jimmy took her hand and encouraged her to lay her head on his shoulder for a nap. Sonia felt completely safe and happy as she snuggled in.

Once they arrived, Jimmy took care of their bags. He came back to her and placed a lei of flowers around her neck.

“Now you can tell your friends you got lei’d in Hawaii,” he said with a grin.

Sonia flushed a bit and suddenly felt very warm. She let out a nervous laugh. She had been avoiding thinking about that part of the trip. The thought was both exciting and nerve wracking. Before she could think too deeply on the topic, Jimmy whisked her away to their suite at the Royal Garden.

As they walked into the room, Sonia gasped. It was gorgeous with an amazing view of Waikiki beach. The suite was very luxurious and had a balcony to take in the amazing views. As she surveyed the scenery, Jimmy came up behind her, wrapped his arms around her waist, and whispered in her ear, “Is it everything you thought it would be?”

“Oh yes,” she said breathlessly.

It was time for dinner already, and Sonia hadn’t even realized how hungry she actually was. Jimmy took her to the top floor bar at the Sheraton overlooking Waikiki Beach for drinks first. As calm as the water looked close to the beach, they could actually see the shadow of the more dangerous creatures that call the ocean home beyond the reef. At the Chart House, they dined on Mahi Mahi and Calamari for dinner. And afterward, they went for a stroll on the beach, toes digging in the sand and the sound of the waves crashing on the beach creating a natural harmony. The warm air surrounded them like a blanket Jimmy put his arm around Sonia’s shoulder and pulled her close. As she leaned into him, she couldn’t help but think everything was just perfect at that moment.

They were up early the next morning, after all, they had a lot to cram into their four days. First up was a catamaran trip. Sonia clung to Jimmy as the boat jumped through the water, sea spray splashing on them as the boat hit the waves. On a private sandbar, they got to snorkel and see the plentiful, colorful fish. Sonia was amazed. Just when she thought it couldn’t get any better, a bottle nose dolphin swam up and circled around her. She was actually able to reach out and touch his slick skin as he glided by her. She couldn’t believe she was interacting with a dolphin in its natural environment. The playful dolphin danced around, darting between them and splashing them with its tail. It was so exhilarating!

After the boat, they stopped at Nico’s at Pier 56 for lunch. You can’t get fish any fresher on the island. The fish and chips would give them fuel for their next adventure – a hike up Diamond Head. The hike wasn’t easy. Even with all of her workouts, Sonia felt every one of the steps. But reaching the top made it worth all the pain. The view was absolutely breathtaking! Sonia dreaded the trip back down, but Jimmy held her hand and helped to steady her on each step down. Their reward for their hard hike was a dip in the ocean on Waikiki. They spent the rest of the day alternating between laying on the sand soaking in the rays and frolicking in the waves.

For dinner that night, they went to a romantic little Italian restaurant called Assaggio’s. Known for their Caesar salad, Sonia and Jimmy watched intently as their server mixed the creation right there at the table. One taste and Sonia understood why people raved about the salad. She literally wanted to lick the bowl to get all of the last remaining drops of the dressing. She settled for wiping the bowl with her bread.

Relaxing on the balcony later, they sipped wine and watched the waves roll onto the beach. The sound of the waves was so soothing in a spiritual sort of way. The heat between Jimmy and Sonia surpassed the heat of the night air, as moisture clung to their skin.

Jimmy woke Sonia early the next morning. “Come on sleepyhead. I have a surprise for you.” Sonia was confused when they drove to the airport. They still had a couple days remaining. Jimmy walked her to a hangar where she found out they were slated to board a helicopter.

“You, my dear, are going to see the volcanoes,” he said.

Sonia squealed in delight and threw her arms around his neck. They boarded the helo. As they took off, Sonia gripped Jimmy’s hand tightly. The ride with no doors was exhilarating and scary. As they approached the Big Island, Sonia could see the lava snaking a slow path across the ground. Rounding the island, all of a sudden the lava tube came into view. There they could see the lava flow out of the tube and hit the cold surf with a hiss. The forces of nature colliding in a beautiful dance. They were able to get some amazing pictures.

Back on solid ground, Sonia was giddy with excitement. This was the best trip of her life! In their last two days, they packed their schedule with hikes in lush tropical locations, visits to Pearl Harbor and The Punchbowl, and a day of surf lessons on the North Shore. At night, they experienced the nightlife of Honolulu and then enjoyed private moments of pleasure in the solitude of their suite.

When they arrived back in LA, Sonia was exhausted but thrilled. It truly had been the trip of a lifetime, and she was so glad she had gone. As Jimmy helped her load her bags into the car, they reminisced about the trip and all they had seen. With his arms around her, he kissed her and said, “I hope the birthday girl enjoyed her vacation. Here’s to another half century of adventures.”

“Thank you for helping to make the trip every bit as amazing as I had hoped it would be,” Sonia said. “I’m so glad I had you with me to check this off my bucket list.”

Back at her house, Sonia barely set her bags down before she called Emma to tell her all about her trip and the male companion who helped make it fabulous.

As we begin to wrap up Summer, it’s natural to reminisce and think about the wonderful adventures. Often our amazing memories also have songs attached to them. One of the top songs this Summer was DNCE’s debut song “Cake By The Ocean.”

The song is on the radio constantly, and why not. It’s entirely catchy, completely dance-worthy, but admittedly, a bit confusing. Cake by the ocean? What does that even mean? I mean, we all love cake (unless you’re one of those silly people who doesn’t like sweets). And the ocean is a great place to be – relaxing, warm, filled with sunshine – and frequently cited as a favorite “happy place.” But combining the two seems a bit unusual, and not very tasty if you get sand on your cake.

We’ll let you in on a little secret. It turns out the song has slightly less family-friendly origins and was really about something much sexier than desserts by the sea. Say it isn’t so!

The band told MTV that “Working on the record, these Swedish producers we were working with kept confusing ’sex on the beach’ with ’cake by the ocean,’ so that’s how the song started. Then, it became this kind of lyrically wacky song that’s funky, fresh, and something that people can dance to.”

Well that makes sense! Now it is infinitely easier to see how the lyrics could read a bit suggestive, and the metaphors in the song’s lyrics now make a whole lot more sense:

I-I-I-I-I-I keep on hoping we’ll eat cake by the ocean

So the hit song of the Summer is really about something that many people have as a fantasy of theirs. Cool! But is sex on the beach really all that it’s cracked up to be? Or is it more like the concept of eating cake by the ocean, and causes you to pause just a bit?

Well, if you are thinking about (ahem) having your cake and eating it too, be ready to meet with some difficulties. The concept of sex on the beach is very romantic. It fills you with strong emotions and seems very desirable (and a little naughty), but there are some important facts to consider before diving into that icing on the cake.

1. Sand is not as friendly as you think. It`s irritating, really irritating. In every sense of the word, «irritating». Think grit in sensitive places and apply appropriate caution.
2. Small creatures. I mean sea bacteria, bugs, jelly-fish and so on. They can be dangerous for your sensitive areas. Keep away from critters.
3. Sea water. Salt tends to dry skin. Your delicate parts will suffer too. And water can wash out your natural lubrication. Add dry to grit, and you see where this is going.
4. People usually wait for darkness to have sex at night, especially when getting it on in public places. Darkness helps to keep your seaside sexy time on the DL, and one positive is the darkness dulls your vision and heightens other sensations, like touch. But the dark can come with some pitfalls. Unfortunately, beaches can be full of sharp stuff you can’t see in the dark. Avoid broken bottles and other sharp stuff.
5. Condom issues. If you are not afraid of pregnancy, skip this one. Water can cause a condom to slip down. Having your adventure in a pool rather than the beach? A condom is essentially useless in pool water, full of chemicals. It can dissolve in water or just tear.
6. Infectious agents are everywhere. To be entirely honest, sex on the beach can be risky. Sand is not sterile, leaving a potential for diseases.
7. Police don’t generally approve of public coitus. If some visitor to the beach notices something amiss, they may call the police. Just imagine you, naked and walking through a police station, with just a blue coat covering you. Hope the fine was worth it! Look for big rocks or other blockades (sand dunes, beach shacks, etc.) that could keep you and your guy out of sight.
8. Forget about trying some new positions. The beach is not the best place for these tricks. If you are brave enough to try cake by the ocean, stick to simple, but tried-and-true positions.
9. Sex on the beach is the fastest sex of all. You’re covered with wet, nasty sand, and worried about infection, critters and getting caught. Being naughty and the risk of getting caught can make it exciting, but do you really have time to think about feelings and to derive true pleasure from the act? Beach love can be very… machine-like.
